After a shy young man is run off the road on his way to meet his on-line boyfriend for the first time, he comes to realize that the kind stranger who rescued him is not really a stranger, he’s his worst nightmare with a terrifying agenda.
SYNOPSIS:
Deliver Me is the story of RJ, a young twenty something gay man who’s been terrified of commitment thanks to his parents abusive relationship and his toxic Christian background, one that hates homosexuality. RJ uses the excuse of not being able to find someone he connects with spiritually in New York City to start a very safe on-line relationship with a kindred spirit named Jake. They decide to meet in person for a romantic weekend upstate. Things soon go awry when RJ loses cell service and is run off the road by an oncoming car. The next thing you know, our hero wakes up in a little boy’s room complete with Star Wars sheets and lego figures. His ankle is sprained and wrapped in a bandage. He limps to door and discovers it’s locked. He starts to panic, but then a kind older man, Jerry (60’s warm and nurturing), peeks in the real door and tells him he’s glad he’s up. He must be hungry. Breakfast is ready. And encourages him to follow the smell of the bacon. Just as Jerry starts to go, he turns around, looks RJ in the eye and tells him, “Oh, and that closet always stays locked.” After breakfast, RJ can’t find his cellphone and Jerry’s internet is down. So is his phone. “Should have never gotten that bundle.” RJ sits in Jerry’s office, noticing the wall of Diplomas: a PhD in Psychology from Yale, a Masters from Harvard. And it’s then that Jerry reveals his work as a conversion therapist. “Don’t you see, son. Your homosexuality is a sin, and I can’t let you go until you’ve been delivered from it.” And that’s when the real horror begins.
