A timid nurse must protect her epileptic son and father with dementia from an unseen enemy that hunts in the sunlight.

SYNOPSIS:

Madison wakes at 9:00 PM. She kisses her 10-year-old son, Jacob, on the head before she snatches her rifle and checks several traps hidden around their home. Massive cuts are etched into the side of the house. A makeshift grave nearby reads “Ben.” While she prepares a meal for Jacob, he declares that he’s worried about his friend, Sarah. Madison asserts that Sarah is safe with her family. She gives Jacob his seizure medication while they watch a news report with Papa, Madison’s father, who suffers from dementia. The reporter interviews a physicist as they discuss the unusual phenomenon happening around the world. The reporter urges everyone to stay indoors and not go into the light. Madison promises to never lie to Jacob and that she’ll do anything to protect him. Madison finds a delirious Papa in the kitchen as he destroys every bottle of Jacob’s seizure medication, fearing that people are trying to poison him. Madison advises Jacob that she needs to visit town to acquire more medicine. Jacob asks her to check on his friend while she’s out.

Madison reaches Sarah’s house, but finds the front door wide open. Blood stains the floor. Huge cuts run along the walls. She finds Sarah and her brothers dead. Contorted faces. Their flesh molded together. Madison stumbles from the house, sobs on the curb as a dark figure watches from the home. She reaches the pharmacy and locates Jacob’s medication. She’s attacked by an unknown assailant as she attempts to leave. She discovers that her attacker is Sarah’s father, Nick. Madison is then knocked unconscious by a second assailant. She dreams of her husband, Ben, as he’s headed to work. As he’s walking toward his truck, he’s bathed in sunlight. Madison screams. She jerks awake to find herself fastened to a chair. A figure steps from the shadows: Sarah’s mother, Emma. She is joined by her husband as they claim they can help Madison. They assure her that they will also help Jacob and Papa once they’ve finished with her. Madison secretly cuts through her restraints as Emma opens all the drapes in the room. She declares that it will be dawn in an hour and “then they’ll come for you.” Madison breaks free, stabs Emma before rendering her unconscious. She kills Nick, snatches her backpack, and sprints for home.

Sunlight edges over the horizon as she breaks through the trees, sees her house. Emma attacks her from behind and starts to choke her. Papa snatches Emma, restrains her as Madison’s gaze darts between her father and the horizon. Papa tells her to run as sunlight peeks over the treeline. Madison sprints for the house as light spills across the grass and bathes Papa and Emma in light. An unseen entity hoists them into the air. Blood covers their clothes. Bones crack as their flesh molds together. Madison reaches the house, quickly closes the door as something slams briefly against it from the outside. Madison unpacks Jacob’s medication, tells him they’ll bury Papa that evening. Jacob asks if Sarah is okay. Madison hesitates, asserts that she’s at her house with her family. Jacob reminds Madison that she promised to never lie to him. She promises that Sarah is safe at her home.
