Struggling with his identity and an abusive father while growing up in Hollywood in the 1950s, a 10-year-old boy is comforted and rescued from his predicament by a beautiful doll he stumbles upon in an antique store (inspired by a true story).

SYNOPSIS:

Growing up in Hollywood during the 1950s, 10-year-old Michael Hall struggles with his identity and an abusive father. Michael becomes fascinated with a beautiful doll that he sees in an antique store one day and, in his imagination, the doll comes alive and captures his heart. So, Michael begins saving up his money and even becomes a paperboy to speed up his ability to purchase the doll. After overcoming several challenges, Michael finally obtains the doll and leans on her for comfort and guidance whenever he hits a rough spot in his tumultuous adolescent life.

Michael forms a close bond with another paperboy but his heart is shattered when his friend falls for a girl that Michael's 5th grade classmates have been actually trying to match him up with. Concurrently, Michael's dad begins to realize that Michael has homosexual tendencies and tries to "make a man out of him." His father wants him to become an auto mechanic like he is and take over his business someday when he retires. However, Michael is opposed to that proposition and lets his father know that he has higher aspirations in life. This generates a deep animosity between Michael and his father that ultimately ends in the divorce of his parents when Michael reveals to his mother that his father has been cheating on her.

With Michael's life "in the toilet," he turns to his mother, his grandmother and his doll for comfort and guidance in his quest for happiness and a purpose for his existence. Although Michael's life was like a scrambled pile of jigsaw puzzle pieces, they all eventually come together to form a beautiful masterpiece.
