SYNOPSIS:

FORTUNA — SEASON 1 SYNOPSIS

Portugal, 1936. On the brink of the Spanish Civil War and the global conflagration to come, a discreet and deadly arms network begins to form across Europe — with wolfram at its heart. In Fortuna, war is not waged on the battlefield, but in drawing rooms, back alleys, and border crossings.

At the center is Gustavo Prado, a wealthy but morally bankrupt Portuguese industrialist who smells fortune in the coming chaos. As Spain readies for a military coup, Gustavo prepares to supply the insurgents with weapons and sell wolfram — the metal that hardens steel — to the highest bidders in Germany and beyond. But Gustavo is also a man of secrets: he hides not only his political ambitions but a second family — twins born from an affair with his housekeeper, Dorotea — and is now drawing his legitimate son Martim into a criminal web of smuggling, war profiteering, and espionage.

In Berlin, Lara, Gustavo's estranged daughter raised by her mother and unaware of her full parentage, is a cabaret performer, sex worker, and underground hustler. Her intelligence and nerve catch the attention of the Nazi elite, including a mysterious Luftwaffe officer, Rudolf, who becomes both lover and gateway to power. When Gustavo recruits Lara as his liaison to the German industrialists — namely the Krupp family — she sees an opportunity to escape poverty and finally claim her place in the world.

Meanwhile, in Spain, Hugo del Mar, a sarcastic and rebellious military cadet, is swept up into the fascist uprising despite his waning faith and disgust for authority. As political tides shift, so do allegiances. Hugo is drawn into the moral abyss of civil war, his path likely to cross with Martim’s in the shadowy arms convoy heading east.

Across ten episodes, Fortuna tracks the collision course of these characters — Martim, Lara, Hugo, and Gustavo — as they move through Lisbon, Berlin, Madrid, and the Pyrenees, driven by money, ideology, shame, and the desire to survive. Some will rise. Some will betray. And some will burn with the very fire they helped ignite.

FORTUNA is a sweeping historical thriller about ambition, identity, and the morally corrosive power of profit in times of war — a dark European saga where the real battleground is the human soul.
