A Jewish soldier in World War II struggles with his identity and the harsh realities of prejudice while forging an unexpected bond with his African American comrades on the battlefield.
SYNOPSIS:
"Stories My Father Never Told Me" is a fast-paced, action-adventure that tells the true story of friendship, hope, and hate. Lieutenant Jacob Specter, a Jewish officer, is put in charge of the 94th Infantry, an all-Black division stationed in New Guinea. It’s a crappy assignment meant to keep what the higher-ups consider inferior soldiers far from the fighting. Long, boring, miserably hot days, broken up only by the occasional ship. Then they spend long, backbreaking hours loading, or unloading, weapons and ammunition. Days stretch into years with no action, until one day, while Jacob, Corporal Nate Washington, Jacob’s best friend since childhood, and several of their men are doing a routine patrol of the island, the Japanese launch a surprise attack. More than an attack, it seems to be a full-scale invasion. As a gravely wounded Jacob and his men fight their way across the island, desperate to warn their forces before it’s too late, he reflects on the events that led him here. From his cloistered childhood in a Jewish ghetto, his interracial friendship with Nate which shocked and enraged his immigrant parents, meeting the love of his life, the hate and discrimination both Jacob and Nate faced while trying to serve their country. How Jacob and his men went from being ostracized, taunted, and even attacked by fellow servicemen to becoming the most decorated unit serving in the Pacific Theater.
