After his mother dies, a well off young man is forced re-adjust his life and take care of his mentally ill brother.
SYNOPSIS:
"JEFFREY MORGAN” is a look at one man’s flawed life.
He’s a 30-something African-American bachelor living in the San Francisco bay area. Jeffrey has a high paying job at a hospital business office. He enjoys playing softball in his spare time and he takes pleasure in living the single life with his friends. But behind all the fun and excitement, Jeffrey has a deep, dark secret from his past, one he’s very reluctant to tell anyone.
One day, he gets a call that his mother is in the hospital and is gravely ill. He rushes back to his hometown of Brooklyn, New York on a red-eye flight, where he’s met by his physically disabled brother, Roger and his aunt, Donna in his mother’s hospital room. He’s told by her doctor that his mother doesn’t have much time to live.
With his father long since dead and his mother unable to care for him, his aunt tells Jeffrey he’ll have to take responsibility in caring for Roger. At first, Jeffrey flat out refuses, but in her last dying wish, his mother insists. Jeffrey accepts.
With Roger now his roommate back in California, his once single life has been turned upside down. Jeffrey’s days of playtime with the ladies are now filled with having to care more for his ailing brother. This new lifestyle change also leads to serious problems in his personal life and at work.
Under a threat of dismissal due to poor work performance, he is forced to receive therapy through the hospital’s employee assistance program. It is through this counselling that Jeffrey is forced to confront his inner demons and his deep regrets as a child.
In “JEFFREY MORGAN”, the character takes us on a journey into his life through his own words. The film can be described as “Rain Man” meets “Jerry Maguire”. Brotherly love, family regret and redemption are just some of the themes the film covers.
Serious in nature, but humorous delivery, “JEFFREY MORGAN” will resonate with those who were haunted by their past, but reluctant to confront them.
