When Gotham’s first Robin, Dick Grayson, breaks away to become Nightwing, a street-hardened Jason Todd is drawn from the Joker’s gang into Batman’s world as the new Robin. SYNOPSIS:

In Gotham’s darkest days, the war between Batman, Robin, and the Joker rages on. In the shadows of that chaos, a homeless teenager named Jason Todd is taken in by the Joker’s mercenaries. They see in Jason something rare—raw grit, survival instincts, and a ruthless streak that could make him the perfect weapon for Gotham’s underworld.

Meanwhile, Dick Grayson, the first Robin, is coming of age. No longer content to be Batman’s sidekick, Dick grows frustrated by Bruce Wayne’s dominance and lack of recognition. Determined to forge his own path, he becomes Nightwing—a hero in his own right. Yet, despite his independence, his loyalty to Batman compels him to ensure Gotham is never left without a Robin.

One night, Nightwing crosses paths with Jason during a violent Joker-led heist. Abandoned by his gang, Jason goes toe-to-toe with Nightwing in a brutal, evenly matched fight. Impressed by the boy’s tenacity but recognizing his lack of direction, Nightwing secretly takes Jason under his wing. He convinces the troubled teen to abandon the Joker’s crew and embrace a new destiny—as the next Robin.

But Jason is no ordinary sidekick. Street-hardened, defiant, and unafraid to question Batman’s methods, he becomes both a powerful weapon against the Joker and a dangerous mirror of Batman’s own inner turmoil. Torn between the Joker—his first twisted mentor—and Batman, the figure who gave him purpose, Jason’s loyalty wavers.

Sensing his hold slipping, the Joker strikes back. In a vicious play, he captures Nightwing, torturing and humiliating him as bait. Batman arrives too late, and the Joker murders Dick Grayson before his eyes—shattering Batman’s psyche. Consumed by rage, Batman begins a merciless crusade across Gotham, blurring the line between hero and executioner.

As the final confrontation erupts, Batman at last defeats the Joker. But instead of delivering him to justice, Batman kills him—a choice Jason witnesses too late to stop. Horrified, Jason sees the man he idolized reduced to the very kind of monster he once fought against.

Broken, betrayed, and fueled by the lessons of both his mentors, Jason makes his choice. He abandons the Robin mantle, embracing a darker destiny. No longer the Joker’s pawn nor Batman’s protégé, Jason Todd steps forward as something new— the Joker reborn.
