SYNOPSIS:

IED is a political drama inspired by Shakespeare’s Hamlet. America is reeling from a series of bomb blasts that killed 10,000 people in the heartland. Meanwhile, Marta Downy anxiously awaits the return of her husband, David, the US secretary of state. When David is killed by a suicide bomber in the Middle East, Marta is devastated. Soon after, she loses her unborn child. Distraught and suicidal, Marta attends a support group for those who have lost loved ones in the war. Here she meets a mysterious young man, Adam, who believes that the president is the real enemy, and has vague plans to bring about a change in power. Marta is intrigued. Around this time, Marta begins to see her dead husband, who adds fuel to her growing contempt for the president: a man she once considered family, but whom she now blames not only for the deaths of thousands of Americans, but for those of her husband and son. Angry and resolved to change the course of the nation, Marta decides to take matters into her own hands: She will assassinate the president of the United States. Marta teams up with Adam and his crew of would-be revolutionaries in a plot to kill the president. Adam leads the crew, while he works under the direction of a shadowy figure, who pulls strings from afar. From the beginning Marta understands this is a suicide mission, but is conflicted about the possibility of collateral damage. She withdraws from her mother—the one person who keeps her grounded—and enters the world of the crew, who keep her focused on the mission. Meanwhile, the president takes extreme measures in the name of national security. The public, still frightened by the recent attacks, does little to stop him. The vice president—disillusioned by his political rival turned partner—hatches his own misguided plan to unseat the president. The president’s draconian actions further infuriate Marta as well. Her resolve wavers, however, when the idea of collateral damage becomes all too real. But she’s in too deep, and her second guessing has horrifying consequences. Now she must act and make the ultimate sacrifice to protect what’s left of her family. She carries out the plan, killing the president, and herself, in a massive explosion. Adam and the crew watch the news of the assassination with jubilation. Soon, though, they meet their own fate, realizing too late that they've all been pawns all along.
