True WW II story of Lt. Hugh Miller, his ship sunk and stranded on a Japanese-held island; he single-handedly attacked Japanese Soldiers and survived for 43 days; with his grizzled beard, the Japanese called him the wolf man.
SYNOPSIS:
After the USS Strong was torpedoed and sank Lt. Hugh Miller rescued two shipmates from drowning. But, depth charges gave him severe internal injuries. He survived on a floater net with five others for 5 days. The men land on a Japanese-held island. In and out of consciousness and unable to eat or drink, Hugh orders the others to find help and leave him to die.
Near-death for 5 days, Hugh miraculously recovers but realizes he is alone against the Japanese. The following 33 days become a deadly version of "hide and seek." Hugh relies on his upbringing in the woods of Alabama to survive and attack the Japanese soldiers. He gathers valuable intelligence on troop movements and strength. Hugh becomes a mysterious, elusive, almost mythic attacker.
When finally rescued, Hugh is decorated with the Navy Cross and Purple Heart by Eleanor Roosevelt. He gives lectures to troops on how to survive in the jungle and meets with producers in Hollywood to tell his story.
There are NO LARGE BATTLE SCENES. Masses of troops are viewed at a distance or illuded to. This project can easily be filmed in Louisiana, Singapore, or Australia as they have studios that allow underwater filming, and their Navy uses a WW II era US Destroyer for training, as well as jungles and shorelines.
