Historians say that in the 1800s, it was possible for a Samurai, Gunslinger, French Pirate, and Gentleman Thief to cross paths, and they do, to overcome their obsolescence and battle ruthless Industrialists bent on destroying lives and land in a Steampunk world. Comparable in tone to WESTWORLD and DEADWOOD.
SYNOPSIS:
This show is a Steampunk/Western/Adventure, a cross between CARNIVAL ROW, WESTWORLD, and DEADWOOD.
At the end of their eras, Four Main characters from different countries, and diverse cultures live at the start of the “Age of Inventions.” They struggle to adjust their morality in an ever-changing world.
In the pilot, Industrialists plot to secure gold mining rights under an Indian reservation and a town. Isaac, a former slave/gunslinger, turned rancher, fears the mining operation will flood his land. Chamberlain, a British Investor/Industrialist, trusted by the Robber barons, will reveal his true motives as a Gentleman Thief. Jacquotte, the last French Pirate on her final pillage, rescues Hiro, a samurai, injured in his last battle after being released from service because of his master’s exile.
The Four find commonality and become a team to battle the Robber-Barons bent on destroying the world for their profit. The supporting characters are also diverse and international.
THEME: An unlikely group will find commonalities to defeat tyranny.
Have you ever had to question your moral compass? Did the job you'd trained for and done your entire life disappear? What if those you trust disavowed you? Would you rather die wealthy or happy?
Yuko Nakano, a female samurai, serves the King of Ryukyu and his children until the kingdom dissolves under Emperor Meiji. Yuko becomes a Ronin and must re-evaluate her morals to search for a new "master" in a world more foreign than she can imagine.
Isaac Green, a freed slave, hung up his gun-slinging pistols to work a cattle ranch with his wife and children. He accepts giving up his loaner life to provide prosperity for his family. Using his guns endangers his family life. Not using them endangers their lives.
Jacquotte Proulx, a female privateer, has devoted her life to France's service, protecting ships and interests. The Treaty of Paris ban on piracy has left her adrift without a country. It will be a long time before she can trust anyone again.
Philip Chamberlain, a British investor, gained some wealth through inheritance, most through robbery. He finds he despises the company he keeps and wants to level the playing field by helping the underdog. He may not survive if he loses everything.
Lonny, a Down Syndrome Savant inventor, is the town blacksmith who provides the team with any device they want and the most straightforward advice they need.
However, obstacles get in the way of our character's desires. Robber baron industrialists, mining for gold, threaten their town and land. An assassin hired to protect a callous engineer takes the offensive with Steampunk devices created by the engineer. Corrupt government officials eliminate those who oppose them, and a renegade Army General uses Zeppelins and soldiers for his gains.
The series brings this unlikely group together to help one another and help those around them. Each must re-invent their skill set to adapt.
The characters tackle situations relevant in today's world, such as social injustice, inclusion, environmental issues, and equality for those from all walks of life. Also, audiences today want escapism, and this series provides that.
A variety of audiences will desire the fast-paced action, and gripping unique characters set in the fascinating world of Steampunk. Archetypal characters that we have never seen together, fighting as a group, using exceptional skills. There are also many international locations to expand the audience.
FUTURE EPISODES
Subsequent episodes find backstories of all the characters. Some have crossed paths before. Isaac was a member of the New Orleans police and went to France to learn detective procedures (which actually happened) where he first met Jacquotte. Chamberlain made his fortune in the cotton trade, realizing the horrors of the slave trade.
The person translating Hiro's words lies about what he has said. Jacquotte mistrusts Hiro and leaves him in New Orleans. The assassin, Kate, has a run-in with Lonny and Hiro (Lonny has repaired something priceless to Hiro). Chamberlain thwarts an arms deal that the Army General negotiated, and the General retaliates.
Hiro tries to find his way in a strange world, but Isaac's wife Shannon, a Kiowa Indian, can communicate through the Athabascan "ancient tongue." Bromley, the callous engineer, unleashes his destructive Steampunk weapon. The assassin, Kate, tries to cover her past in New Orleans and her association with Jacquette.
Oh, and Jacqoutte pirates a Zeppelin warship.
