SYNOPSIS:

Turbine - a synopsis The dam in the Afghan mountains is an important source of local power. The Taliban would blow it up tomorrow if it got the chance. The local Militia protects it but they are becoming increasingly under fire. The Combined Forces must help them and they have to go without the new turbine that lies in limbo in a builder's yard. The townspeople have to suffer the constant outages, a scourge to domestic and professional life. A local carpenter is particularly annoyed at the situation, especially when he learns that the answer to the problem - a new turbine - sits under a tarpaulin on the back of a truck, just round the corner. He decides to liberate the truck, as nobody else will drive it through Taliban infested country. A television journalist with her cameraman follows the military patrol but they fall behind and are kidnapped. The carpenter is the next along the road and takes in the scene at a glance. He pulls off onto a dirt track when the Taliban open fire and severely damage the truck. The traditional game of Buzkashi is in full swing and fifty horsemen fight for the headless carcass of a goat - when the truck dies nearby. At first it seems that these amazing riders might kill the carpenter but he eventually persuades them to haul the truck with real horsepower. The useless cab is discarded and the Buzkashi riders harness their horses to the flatbed trailer. On their difficult journey they are ambushed by the Taliban but cleverly outmanoeuvre them. The journalist appears on television, a gun to her head, holding up her ID card and reading from a statement of demands. She has embedded some clues in the statement, which are picked up by the military commander. He takes a small commando unit to the rescue. The rescue goes wrong before it goes right and a vicious Taliban leader is humbled. On the final stretch, the turbine is attacked again, to be saved incredibly by the Buzkashi horsemen. An explosion in the reservoir frightens the horses and soaks the army but cleanses the soul. The carpenter goes back to work with the beautiful spoils of war and the lights go out again.
