CHOTT EL-DJERID
By Wael Gasmi

GENRE: Horror
LOGLINE: After a group of travelers takes a forbidden detour across Tunisia’s remote desert, toxic gases trigger terrifying hallucinations, turning an old local legend into a deadly reality they can no longer distinguish from their own minds.

SYNOPSIS:

A group of travelers sets out on a journey across southern Tunisia, heading toward the vast and unforgiving landscape of Chott El-Djerid. Along the way, they pass an abandoned bus tied to a disturbing local legend about a mysterious old woman known as “Al-Abitha.” What begins as an unsettling story soon becomes terrifyingly real. When their organizer, Hajj Moncef, takes an isolated desert road to avoid a police checkpoint, the group finds itself trapped far from help. Strange smells, distorted perceptions and increasingly violent hallucinations begin to affect the travelers. One by one, they encounter the terrifying figure from the legend, while fear and paranoia turn them against one another. As the boundary between hallucination and reality collapses, survival depends on understanding what is happening before the desert—and their own minds—consume them. CHOTT EL-DJERID is a contained psychological horror feature that blends Tunisian folklore with a grounded environmental threat, transforming an isolated desert road into a place where neither the characters nor the audience can fully trust what they see.
