ECHOES OF THE PAST

A disgraced detective uses a high-tech memory device to relive his own childhood memories in order to solve a 20 year old serial killer cold case.
SYNOPSIS:
Detective Brett Rourke has spent his career running from his mother's unsolved murder, until an old friend unveils a radical new technology that lets him relive his own memories in perfect, immersive detail. Convinced the department's prime suspect is a scapegoat, Brett dives back into his childhood piece by piece, chasing fragments of alibis, lies, and half-remembered nights that don't add up. But every memory he recovers pulls him closer to a man he's trusted his entire life, his stepfather, Claude, and the deeper he goes, the more Brett realizes the monster he's hunting may have been sitting at his dinner table all along. As the case reopens old wounds and new bodies pile up, Brett is forced to decide how far he'll go to expose the truth, even if it costs him the only family he has left.

Joel Morgan Hi Joel, the memory-device concept immediately gives the cold-case story a strong hook. What interests me most is that the investigation isn't simply about uncovering evidence it forces Brett to question the reliability of his own childhood memories and the person he believed he could trust.
The stepfather reveal also creates a strong emotional dimension because solving the case could mean destroying the last remaining piece of Brett's family.
I’d be particularly interested in how you handle the tension between memory as evidence and memory as something that can be interpreted differently over time. Best of luck with ECHOES OF THE PAST!
