An innocent birthday sleepover for nine -year-old, socially awkward Julia Cameron turns violent when she must protect herself and her friends from her alcoholic father's drunken rampage.
SYNOPSIS:
Pin the Tail follows Julia Cameron, a nine-year-old girl growing up in a home shaped by her father’s abuse and her mother’s inability to protect her. As a result, Julia struggles to connect with her peers and is viewed as an outsider at school. More than anything, Julia longs to feel normal, to be accepted, understood, and to have a true friend.
That changes when she meets Zuri, a new girl at school whose confidence and warmth are the opposite of Julia’s withdrawn nature. The two quickly form a close friendship, and Julia invites Zuri to her ninth birthday sleepover, hoping it will be the perfect night she has always dreamed of: a night filled with cookies, presents, movies, games, and the innocence of childhood.
But as the celebration unfolds, the reality of Julia’s home life begins to intrude. As her father becomes increasingly intoxicated and a seemingly harmless prank takes a dark turn, the girls’ innocent birthday celebration transforms into a terrifying fight for survival. Trapped in a night of escalating violence, Julia is forced to confront the devastating consequences of her desperate desire to hold onto the one thing she has always wanted: a friend.
