By Caleb Stone

GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE:

A grieving Hawaiian college freshman and a cynical Vermont student are forced to travel together to New York City for a prestigious debate competition, where constant clashes, hidden pain, and a dangerous conspiracy force them to confront their grief—and each other—in ways that change their lives forever.

SYNOPSIS:

THE WACKYS is a romantic action comedy that blends humor, heart, suspense, and emotional healing.

After the sudden death of her pilot father, optimistic Hawaiian freshman Alana Hale leaves home to attend the University of Vermont, hoping a fresh start will help her escape the grief that has consumed her life. There she meets Nate Wacky, a sarcastic, emotionally guarded freshman carrying wounds of his own. The two couldn't be more different, and from the moment they meet, their personalities collide.

When they are selected to represent their university at a prestigious debate competition in New York City, a canceled flight forces them onto an unexpected journey together aboard Amtrak's Ethan Allen Express. What begins as an uncomfortable trip filled with culture clashes, sharp arguments, and misunderstandings gradually becomes something far more meaningful as both begin to lower their emotional defenses.

As Alana and Nate navigate New York City, their growing connection is threatened by a jealous classmate whose escalating actions place them in unexpected danger. Forced to rely on one another, they confront grief, heartbreak, and the fears they've kept buried, discovering that healing sometimes comes from the people they least expect.

Blending character-driven comedy, romance, action, and emotional drama, THE WACKYS explores themes of loss, resilience, family, forgiveness, and finding hope in the most unexpected places as two unlikely companions discover that the journey they never wanted becomes the one that changes their lives forever.

Caleb Stone I really like the balance of genres here. What stood out to me most is that beneath the romance, comedy, and action, the story seems to be about two people helping each other heal from grief. That emotional foundation is what can make the adventure feel meaningful rather than just entertaining. Wishing you the very best with THE WACKYS—I hope it finds the right collaborators and audience.
