BLOODY KNUCKLES

BLOODY KNUCKLES
By Mike García

GENRE: Action
LOGLINE:

Decades after his victory in the legendary Kakutougi Challenge was
immortalized on screen, aging action star Frankie Raven returns to the
brutal underground tournament to train a rising star and break barriers
for women's martial arts, confronting his past demons and a ruthless new
champion before his myth fades forever.

SYNOPSIS:

In the neon-lit 1980s, American secret agent and war hero Frankie Raven became a legend by defeating the ruthless karate champion Takashi Shimada in the brutal underground Kakutougi Challenge—a no-holds-barred martial arts tournament held in a sacred Japanese Shinto temple. The victory, immortalized in the cult classic film Bloody Knuckles (starring European action icon Jean-Luc Deveaux as Frankie), turned him into an overnight hero, complete with slow-motion kicks, ghostly mentors, and a sacred samurai sword prize. Decades later, the real Frankie Raven—now older, wiser, and quietly living with his wife Nina—attends a retro screening of his own movie. Surrounded by fans who still cheer every cheesy line and over-the-top fight, he confronts the gap between the invincible on-screen myth and the man he has become. When a new generation revives the Kakutougi Challenge, Frankie is drawn back into the world he once conquered. A determined young fighter named David, a die-hard fanboy obsessed with 80s action flicks, seeks his guidance, while Kumiko, a fierce female martial artist, fights against outdated traditions to prove women belong in the ring.

As Frankie steps into the mentor role, he must train them to face a new crop of ruthless competitors—including a dangerous heir to the old guard—while battling his own physical limits, fading glory, and unresolved ghosts from the past. In a high-stakes return to the tatami, Frankie fights not just for victory, but to pass on the spirit of the old-school warrior and help shatter barriers for the fighters who come after him. Part loving homage to 80s martial arts classics like Bloodsport and Kickboxer, part bittersweet meditation on legacy and redemption, Bloody Knuckles delivers explosive fights, heartfelt mentorship, and a triumphant reminder that true heroes never really fade—they just get a second round.
