SYNOPSIS:

SHORT SYNOPSIS — ASH FALLS In a near-future United States, a secret military experiment called the ECHO PROJECT is designed to synchronize human emotions among soldiers to improve battlefield efficiency. Instead, it catastrophically fails—erasing the boundary between individual minds and turning emotion into a contagious force. The result is a global psychological outbreak known as RED FEVER, where fear, grief, rage, and pain spread instantly between people like a virus. Entire communities collapse into emotional overload, violence, and identity loss as no one can distinguish their own feelings from those of others. As society fractures, the military establishes quarantine zones across the country. One such zone is Ash Falls, Montana, where former military medic ETHAN COLE survives in isolation, emotionally detached after losing his son during early ECHO trials. When Ash Falls begins to collapse under the spread of Red Fever, Ethan encounters LILY HARPER, an 11-year-old girl who appears uniquely resistant to the emotional contagion. She can perceive the emotional signal without being fully consumed by it—but each use of her ability erodes her sense of self as she absorbs fragments of other people’s emotions and memories. Pursued by military forces led by Colonel Nathan Graves, Ethan discovers the truth behind the outbreak: ECHO was never abandoned. Graves believes emotional individuality is the cause of human conflict, and Red Fever is not a failure but an evolution toward collective consciousness. Forced into survival across a collapsing Montana landscape, Ethan and Lily form an unlikely bond as she becomes the key to either stopping or controlling the phenomenon. Their journey leads to a decommissioned ECHO facility where Graves attempts to trigger a global synchronization event using Lily as a living interface. In the final confrontation, Ethan sacrifices himself to stop Graves, allowing Lily to access the system and sever the global emotional link. Humanity is saved—but permanently altered, with emotional separation restored yet fragments of collective psychological noise lingering in the human mind. Years later, Lily stands alone in the quiet remains of Ash Falls, still hearing echoes of the world inside her mind. When she detects a faint emotional signal from somewhere distant, she realizes the phenomenon may not be fully gone. She looks up.
