THE DYING WEST

THE DYING WEST
By River Evatt

GENRE: Western, Horror
LOGLINE:

As a desperate family travels the Oregon Trail searching for a better life, they become trapped in a cursed wilderness haunted by an ancient entity that feeds on guilt, sacrifice, and despair.

SYNOPSIS:

Set against the brutal isolation of the American frontier, THE DYING WEST follows Josiah and Esther Whitaker as they lead their children across the Oregon Trail in search of hope and survival. But after illness, starvation, and paranoia begin tearing the family apart, they encounter a mysterious preacher named Hawthorne — a man who believes the land itself is alive and demanding sacrifice.

As their youngest son Samuel grows deathly ill, strange whispers begin haunting the family, particularly young Lydia, who appears increasingly connected to the unseen force stalking them through the wilderness. What starts as fear slowly transforms into madness as the family becomes convinced something ancient is following them through the endless plains and desolate mountain passes.

Driven by desperation, Josiah enters a dark spiritual bargain in hopes of saving his son, but the pact unleashes devastating consequences that push the family toward emotional and supernatural collapse. Haunted by guilt, consumed by grief, and manipulated by an evil that thrives on suffering, the Whitakers must confront whether the true horror lies within the land — or within themselves.

Bleak, atmospheric, and emotionally driven, THE DYING WEST blends psychological terror with frontier survival horror to explore faith, sacrifice, generational guilt, and the terrifying cost of desperation.
