SYNOPSIS:

IMANI is a character-driven drama about survival, resilience, and unconditional love.

In a small village in the Congo, Teholo lives with his family until a brutal militia attack shatters their world. His father is killed, and the survivors are taken captive and brought to a militia camp.

Inside the camp, the family is separated. Teholo is placed among the men, while his sister Nia, his three-year-old baby sister Aya, and his cousin Asali are held among the women.

There, the militia leaders take what they want.

Nia is chosen by Ilunga, the brother of the camp leader. Asali is taken by the leader himself. Understanding that resistance would mean death, they submit in order to survive.

Trapped and powerless, Teholo initially considers escape—but quickly realizes it is impossible. Instead, he makes a dangerous choice: he will adapt, gain the militia’s trust, and become part of the system that enslaved them.

As he rises within the camp, he begins to observe its weaknesses. With the help of a woman held within the leader’s household, he forms a plan to rescue his sister and cousin from captivity and forced marriage.
