SYNOPSIS:

When mob fixer David accidentally records his crew murdering their boss, he becomes the world's most reluctant whistleblower. The feds shove him into WITSEC, rename him Warren David, and dump him in Wickerman Valley - a postcard-perfect town where the smiles are too wide, the peach cobbler is too plentiful, and everyone seems a little too excited to meet him. Warren tries to blend in, but the neighbors come on strong: Lynette, who weaponizes hospitality; her daughter Anissa, who has no filter; and Fred, who treats Warren like a long-lost cousin. The town's obsession with local action-movie icon Rick Rage only adds to the weirdness - especially when Rick steps out of the shadows, already knowing Warren's real name, jacket size, and entire past. As Warren is force-fed friendliness and folded into the community, he starts to suspect the town isn't just quirky - it's curated. The upcoming Festival, complete with matching peach jackets, feels less like a block party and more like an initiation. And the house he moved into? The previous owner died under circumstances the neighbors gloss over a little too quickly. Meanwhile, the mob hasn't forgotten him. Eric, the crew's enforcer, pressures Mack to dig through WITSEC files and track Warren down before he can testify. Warren thinks he's hiding in suburbia; the mob thinks he's a breadcrumb trail. By the end of the pilot, Warren realizes the truth: the people hunting him are dangerous, but the people protecting him might be worse. Breaking Character is a dark comedy thriller about a man trying to reinvent himself in a town that refuses to let him.
