SYNOPSIS:
I’m developing a dark, character-driven Western about how violence passes from one generation to the next. I’d love feedback on the logline and synopsis
In 1870s Montana Territory, a teenage boy returns home after skipping school only to witness his family brutally murdered by hired gunmen. Forced to flee for his life, he is hidden by a compassionate preacher before eventually falling under the control of a cruel saloon owner, where he endures years of harsh labor and abuse.
When a passing gang of outlaws recognizes the boy’s toughness and quiet resolve, they recruit him to assist with small robberies. During the planning of a major bank heist, a mysterious professional gunfighter joins the gang and begins training Montana in the deadly art of the gun. The robbery soon goes disastrously wrong, leaving Montana as one of the only survivors. At the rendezvous point, a surviving gang member attempts to take the stolen money, forcing Montana into a deadly confrontation that marks his first true step toward becoming a feared gunfighter.
Montana soon builds a reputation for violence, working as an enforcer for a powerful landowner who controls the town’s criminal dealings. Stories of the quiet young gunman who never misses begin spreading across the territory. His life takes another dark turn when a confrontation with the father of a young woman he cares for ends in the man’s death, forcing Montana to confront the man he has become.
Haunted by the past he can never escape, Montana finally tracks down the men responsible for murdering his family. His search leads to a quiet general store where the gunman now lives under a new identity. In a final, tense showdown, the gunman’s young son witnesses the deadly exchange—an ominous sign that the same cycle of violence that created Montana may now begin again.
