Wounded in combat and slipping into a dream of home, a Green Beret medic is carried through gunfire toward rescue as his collapsing consciousness mirrors the chaos around him in a music‑driven portrait of survival and the unseen cost of war.
SYNOPSIS:
Specular Reflection is a visceral, music‑driven short film based on the true experience of a U.S. Army Green Beret medic who was shot in the head during combat operations in Afghanistan. As his teammates shield him and move him through heavy fire toward a MEDEVAC helicopter, he slips into a dream of home—warm, safe, impossible. The dream fractures, looping against the chaos around him, until he enters the bird under fire and is flown to safety. Told entirely through visuals, subtitles, and the full track “Specular Reflection” by Between the Buried and Me, the film blends realism with surreal psychological collapse. It’s a story about survival, memory, and the invisible cost carried by those who return.
