Digging out iron, cobalt, and chunks of aquifer isn't fun at the best of times. And with alien critters periodically hurling themselves at the downed ship, 'best' left town.
SYNOPSIS:
There is beautiful, brutal simplicity to the contract. Land in a mineral-rich area of Gamma Triton IV, and extract as much of the natural resources as possible. Of course, what the bosses neglected to mention was the hostile wildlife. And the difficult terrain. And the ultimate fragility of the ship temporarily converted into a mining outpost.
The narrative structure here is suitable for a single miner or a crew thereof, with the latter differentiating into research, defense, metallurgy, and ongoing survival. The wildlife can either be an ongoing threat, with a baseline level of danger, or endangering the human cast in peaks and troughs. The mining technology will also be advancing throughout the project, as raw materials are used to augment the starting equipment, and salvaged technology allows for leaps forward.
This is ultimately based on the game Dome Keeper, with the mechanics and visual storytelling to support a plot of failure, endurance, and hard-won triumph. Which will last longer: tons of rock dug out from the landscape, or the human spirit?
