EVERYBODY TALKS ABOUT THE WEATHER
By Timmy Hunter-Kilmer

GENRE: Science Fiction
LOGLINE:

Matt Caulfield's become a metahuman, so he signs up with Earth's Champions. Turns out having four perspectives is useful for understanding the planet's sole superhuman organization.

SYNOPSIS:

The rules have been simple for decades. Dedicated vigilante action is unethical; the seer Weaver foretold doom, without a single organization coordinating the efforts of all metahumans who did not wish to have ordinary civilian jobs. So when Matt Caulfield suddenly has a Maiden/Mother/Crone, roboticist/Comics Code Authority censor/halfling grandmother, in his head, he does the responsible thing.

He knows, intellectually, that the field agents of Earth's Champions are the smallest part of the group. Getting picked up personally by Moneybags, the world's biggest billionaire, is still a daunting experience. She handles his transportation to their constructed island in the Pacific, for orientation. No more riding the bus for 'Psych', it would appear.

The Champions are not a flashy organization, despite the investments they've made in the stability and economic health of the Pacific Rim nations, including centering their operations between the islands scattered from Japan to Guatemala. The bulk of their work is in disaster management: maintaining waystations throughout that ocean, tamping down typhoons, managing shipments among and around Polynesia...

It's a welcome shock to everyone when Psych realizes the unglamorous core of that prophecy, the fundamental demand for metahuman organization. His blurted understanding changes nothing, and everything.
