By Amy Wilhelm

GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE:

A successful New York art curator caught between a deceptive lover and an emotionally unavailable patron must confront her patterns and choose herself before time—and her chance at motherhood runs out.

SYNOPSIS:

Kate Lowell is a successful New York art curator who has built her career elevating other people’s work while quietly abandoning her own voice. Polished and respected, she appears fulfilled, but beneath the surface she feels unseen, unchosen, and increasingly aware that time and her hopes for motherhood—are slipping away.

After the loss of her parents, the absence of family becomes existential. When she meets Jehan, a magnetic and introspective writer, their connection is immediate and deeply intimate. He awakens her creatively and emotionally, offering a sense of possibility she hasn’t felt in years.

But Jehan’s intensity masks inconsistency. His presence gives way to distance, and what begins as profound connection reveals itself as something unstable and deceptive. As he pulls her in and disappears, Kate is forced to question not just him but her own patterns.

At the same time, she becomes entangled with RG Levine, a powerful and accomplished figure who supports her career and believes in her work. Where Jehan is chaotic and consuming, RG is controlled and emotionally unavailable representing a life of stability and status, but not intimacy.

Caught between deception and distance, Kate begins to confront a deeper truth: neither man can give her the life she’s searching for.

Through her connection with the Donatella family a warm, vibrant, and deeply connected household—Kate experiences a kind of belonging she thought she had lost forever. She doesn’t just feel welcomed by them she deeply admires the way they love, support, and show up for one another, awakening in her a desire not only to belong, but to build and emulate that kind of family in her own life.

As her gallery takes shape, so does her urgency around motherhood. Without a partner she can rely on, she considers becoming a mother on her own—no longer waiting for the “right” relationship to validate that future.

When Jehan’s deception becomes undeniable and RG remains out of reach, Kate faces a final reckoning: she must stop waiting to be chosen.

In the film’s emotional culmination, her gallery opening becomes a personal declaration. No longer curating others’ lives while hiding her own, Kate steps fully into her identity as both artist and woman—choosing a life rooted in truth, creativity, and the kind of love she now knows she can create for herself. Uncovering Comets is a romantic dramedy about illusion, desire, and the quiet power of choosing yourself revealing that some love exists not to be kept, but to show us what we must leave behind
