SOLE MATES
By Allison Johnson

GENRE: Romance, Comedy
LOGLINE: A small town dancer chooses fame and fortune in LA over a quiet life with her soulmate, until a magical intervention leaves her spinning with doubts.

SYNOPSIS:

30yr old dance instructor, DANI, feels the call of Hollywood so strongly, she leaves ERIC, her Salsa dancing, law student boyfriend on one knee holding a ring in his hand. She speeds away from the rolling hills as she drives nonstop to the shimmering, yet closed arms of Hollywood. Scraping by on savings in her furnished (and infested) apartment, she begins auditions immediately - but they’re a chorus of “Next!” until her best friend, KRISTIN, moves out to be her manager.

Together, they find a director who believes in Dani and start cranking out the streamer successes. Unfortunately, it’s all Step up 5, 6, 7, & 8, basically. Dani longs to make something original. Kristin reminds her she wrote a screenplay years ago about how she and Eric fell in love on the dance floor, but Dani yearns for him so she can’t bear to relive it. Kristin sneaks it to the director anyway (who loves it) and urges Dani to Woman Up. With Hollywood mega-star, CHASE KENNEDY on board to play Eric, filming begins on their playful love story. Meanwhile, back in Kentucky, the real Eric has passed the Bar and started his law career - though it’s a far cry from his bright-eyed vision of changing the world: he’s stuck in family law.

Once the stress of filming something so close to her heart subsides, Dani connects with her old neighbor GINA, the angelic healer with a magic touch. Gina gives Dani a tea that spins her back to Kentucky and into Eric’s arms. It shows Dani what would have been had she never left: the thriving love, her very own dance studio, and the cutest daughter one could imagine (with another baby almost ready to dance its way into the world). After enough time there, Dani’s convinced: Love is the answer.

She flies to KY to win Eric back. Naturally, he wants nothing to do with her – the statute of limitations on apologies ran out a few years ago. Dani leaves him tickets for her premier anyway. After lambasting from his co-counsel, and some serious soul searching, Eric goes to the premier. As Dani and Chase do a live Q & A with the audience (how else do you get people to the theater these days?) Eric surprises everyone by apologizing for not following her lead. They dance the Salsa of their dreams as they realize: in life, sometimes you lead, sometimes you fall flat on your face. Either way, it’s better with a helluva partner.
