SYNOPSIS:

While We’re Young follows Marcus, a former high-school basketball prodigy from Chicago who was forced to grow up too soon. At seventeen, with scouts watching and his future wide open, Marcus chooses family responsibility over ambition, quietly sacrificing his dreams to help keep his household afloat. Sixteen years later, he is a devoted father living paycheck to paycheck, deeply present in his teenage son Jaden’s life and determined to protect him from the pressures that once consumed his own youth. When mounting financial stress and emotional exhaustion push Marcus to a breaking point, a sudden time fracture sends him into an alternate life — one where he pursued basketball, found success, financial stability, and built a life with his longtime love, Celine. In this reality, Marcus has everything he once dreamed of, except the one thing his body remembers but his mind does not: his son. As memories violently return, Marcus is confronted by Jaden — a version of his child shaped by absence, foster care, and premature independence. Forced to reckon with the cost of rewriting the past, Marcus must make an impossible choice with full knowledge of what it will erase. Choosing his son collapses the altered future and returns him to his original life, where nothing is magically fixed — poverty remains, wounds remain — but accountability begins. While We’re Young is not a time-travel story about changing the past, but a grounded exploration of sacrifice, generational trauma, and the painful truth that doing the right thing does not always reward you — it simply asks you to stay.
