JR, a ten-year-old boy from Chicago’s South Side who has suffered febrile seizures since infancy, begins traveling through dreams, memories, and alternate selves — and after his father’s sudden death, malevolent entities called the Whispers hunt him for his innocence and power, forcing his mother to awaken abilities she’s spent her life suppressing to keep her son from becoming their doorway into the living world.
