GENRE: Thriller / Suspense, Mystery
LOGLINE:

When a celebrated author facing public scandal retreats with her family to her husband’s ancestral manor in Italy, she begins to unravel as a grotesque yellow wallpaper appears to trap the anguished spirits of women within it—forcing her to confront whether she is suffering postpartum psychosis or awakening to a centuries-old supernatural curse determined to consume her.

SYNOPSIS:

After a public scandal questions her devotion as a new mother, celebrated novelist Miriam Singleton retreats with her physician husband to his ancestral manor in Salerno, Italy, hoping distance will quiet the noise. Instead, the isolation deepens it.

Upstairs, a grotesque yellow wallpaper stains the west wing of the palazzo. Its warped patterns seem to shift. It carries a sour scent no one else detects. At night, Miriam dreams of women trapped beneath its surface, whispering for release.

Her husband insists she is exhausted. He forbids her from writing. He calls it care.

As bruises appear and vanish, and the wallpaper refuses to burn, Miriam begins to question whether she is suffering postpartum psychosis—or uncovering a legacy of women silenced within these walls. The more she resists, the more unstable she appears.

In a house where female unrest has always been renamed madness, Miriam must confront the most terrifying possibility of all:

What if she is not imagining it?

Adapted from the short story Yellow Wallpaper (1892) by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
