SYNOPSIS:
Massimo is an ordinary man with extraordinary resilience, raising his son Marco alone after the child suffers severe cognitive and physical disabilities caused by a traumatic birth. Marco’s mother abandoned the family shortly after delivery, unable to face the weight of that shattered future. Since then, Massimo has built a fragile but deeply loving world with his son, made of daily routines, small victories, and constant battles against social and physical barriers. Their quiet balance is shared with Mercuzio, Massimo’s closest friend—an amateur astronomer whose fascination with the cosmos borders on obsession. As strange lights, unexplained signals, and disturbing phenomena begin to appear, the universe itself seems to intrude into their lives. At the same time, Massimo crosses paths with Gaia, a young woman trapped in an abusive relationship, who finds in Massimo and Marco a reflection of her own desire for escape. But the family’s stability collapses when social services question Massimo’s ability to care for his son, forcing him to confront the limits of love, endurance, and protection. The alien presence—never fully revealed, never comforting—does not offer healing, but transformation. Massimo is faced with the most painful act of love imaginable: understanding that true freedom may only come through separation. VOLA! is a high-concept dramatic feature blending grounded realism with subtle science-fiction elements, where disability becomes a gateway to liberation and love is measured by the courage to let go.
