A rediscovered 1970s ritual recording is digitized and released on a horror streaming platform, where an engineer discovers that every user who finishes a full playback unknowingly completes a real summoning. The entity known as The Favorite can’t distinguish between a live invocation and a replay, turning each new stream into an offering.
SYNOPSIS:
When an unmarked 16mm reel from a 1970s farmhouse ritual is digitized and uploaded to Bloodgate, a scrappy horror streaming archive preparing for its first film festival, platform engineer Alex Moreno notices something in the data: every user who watches the footage to completion stops generating activity. Then the users themselves start dying.
As demand for the mysterious clip builds online and a packed theater audience demands to see it, Alex races to stop the screening before the final line of the ritual is spoken and the entity known as The Favorite emerges.
Alex and Bloodgate founder Isaac destroy the file and shred the original reel. But a copy has already been emailed. And uploaded. And shared.
The Favorite is spreading. And it only needs you to press play.
