HR

HR
By Karon Paige

GENRE: Drama, Comedy
LOGLINE: When the HR Director role opens unexpectedly, two ambitious women—one cutthroat, one principled—battle for control of the messiest department in the building, just as a sharp new COO threatens to upend everything. In this office, HR isn’t just enforcing the rules—they’re breaking them.

SYNOPSIS:

Set in the corporate offices of Paige & Partners, a high-stakes staffing firm, HR pulls back the curtain on the people tasked with keeping everyone in line. But behind the compliance policies and team-building seminars is a department barely holding it together. At the center is a brewing rivalry between Brianna, the poised and cutthroat Recruiting Director, and Lauren, the overworked but principled HR Manager—both vying for a now-vacant leadership role following the sudden death of their boss. Tensions rise even further with the arrival of Malcolm, the sharp new COO whose presence upends office dynamics—and expectations. Through its whip-smart writing and layered characters, HR exposes the hypocrisy, humor, and humanity of the people behind the policy manuals. Because when HR breaks the rules… who writes them up?

I like the title and concept, Karon Paige! I think you’re really close to a solid logline. I suggest using “In this office, HR isn’t just enforcing the rules—they’re breaking them” in your pitch instead of the logline. Or it could be the tagline.

Maurice Vaughan Thank you. I will remove that and save it for the tagline.

As a comedy writer myself, I love the HR dynamic. It can open tons of comedy, especially absurd comedy. I rated the logline a 4, but the synopsis is good enough I’d be intrigued to watch this!
