THE FAMILY BUSINESS

THE FAMILY BUSINESS
By Juan Rodriguez

GENRE: Horror, Crime
LOGLINE: After her mob-connected father suffers a stroke, a corporate executive returns to her family business and discovers its financial forecasts accurately predict violent crimes—forcing her to choose between profit and preventing bloodshed.

SYNOPSIS:

Lucia Moretti, a brilliant but emotionally guarded financial executive, is forced to return home when her father — head of an Italian-American crime family — suffers a debilitating stroke. Asked to temporarily oversee the family’s legitimate holding company, Lucia believes she can bring order and transparency to a business she’s long tried to escape. While reviewing internal forecasts and growth projections, Lucia notices disturbing correlations between the company’s most profitable periods and acts of extreme violence connected to the family’s criminal operations. At first dismissing the pattern as coincidence, she soon uncovers archived projections that precisely predicted real murders years before they occurred. As Lucia digs deeper, she realizes the company’s predictive analytics don’t cause violence — they anticipate it with terrifying accuracy. Attempts to alter forecasts only shift the outcome, never preventing the bloodshed. The family treats the projections as inevitability, using them to prepare rather than intervene. When the data predicts a violent event involving someone Lucia loves — and eventually herself — she must decide whether to preserve the family business and accept its cost, or destroy the system entirely, knowing that doing so may trigger immediate chaos and death. Lucia is forced to confront the true price of legacy, power, and the illusion of control.

Hey Juan Rodriguez love the concept, you have clearly stated the protag, the inciting incident and the action but it's a little long, more like a synopsis.

Juan Rodriguez

Thank you for that feed back, I went ahead and tweaked it.

Hey Juan Rodriguez Loglines are really hard, I rewrote mine a bunch of times and I'm sure it's not perfect. It's a tricky one but I think it's now missing the other inciting incident., her dad's stroke. It's so hard to cut them back to what's crucial, think max for loglines is 25-30. But again I'm certainly no expert.

Juan Rodriguez

Thank you — that’s really helpful. You’re right about the stroke being essential. I’m tightening the logline now to focus on the core inciting incident.
