BUCK ROGERS

BUCK ROGERS
By Jay A Swendris

GENRE: Science Fiction
LOGLINE:

A hotshot 21st-century Air Force Captain is accidentally frozen during a prototype faster-than-light test, waking up 501 years later to find Earth ruled by a totalitarian Directorate and himself a vital political pawn trapped between the planet's rigid government and the calculated seduction of a powerful alien Empire.

SYNOPSIS:

A Man Out of Time

In 2025, Captain Buck Rogers, a cocky yet skilled test pilot, attempts humanity's first faster-than-light (FTL) jump. A critical system failure sends him careening out of control, locking his ship in an uncontrolled orbit that acts as a cryogenic tomb for five centuries. He is revived in the year 2526 aboard the magnificent flagship, the Draco, property of the Draconian Empire.

The World of 2526: A Cold War

Buck finds a galaxy locked in a tense cold war. Earth is no longer a collection of nations but a unified, militarized state known as the Earth Directorate, which maintains order through technological surveillance and ideological conformity. The Draconian Empire, led by the shrewd and calculating Princess Ardala, is the only power capable of challenging the Directorate's total control.

Buck's 500-year-old FTL technology is revealed to be far more advanced than anything the 26th century possesses, making him the most valuable political commodity in the galaxy. Ardala offers him safety and status on the Draco, intending to exploit his knowledge to gain a critical advantage over Earth.

Series Arc: The Double Agent

The series follows Buck as he struggles to navigate this new landscape. He is forced into a deadly game of espionage:

  1. The Draconian Offer: Ardala tempts Buck with freedom and power, leveraging their mutual distrust of the Directorate while forcing him to choose sides. Buck must play along, learning the Draconians' technology and politics while searching for information about his past, particularly the fate of his father, General William Rogers.

  2. The Earth Directive: Buck eventually finds an opportunity to return to Earth, only to discover the Directorate's control is absolute and unforgiving. He is immediately seen as either a valuable asset to be weaponized or a dangerous relic to be eliminated. He must decide if the Earth he wakes up to is worth saving, or if the freedom offered by his sophisticated, alien captors is the lesser of two evils.

The central conflict becomes Buck's quest for truth, caught between the polished tyranny of the Directorate and the seductive danger of the Draconian Empire, all while trying to maintain his 21st-century moral code in a post-humanistic world. The season climaxes as Buck is forced to make an impossible choice that will tip the delicate balance of power, sparking a devastating new interstellar war.
