FROZEN RIVER
By Jason Patao

GENRE: Biopic / True Story
LOGLINE: Based on exclusive life rights: the true story of a boy imprisoned in a North Korean labor camp at 12 who survived nine years of starvation and brutality before escaping across a frozen river under gunfire — an odyssey that carried him 4,000 miles to freedom and ultimately to the world stage with Biden and Obama.

SYNOPSIS:

Frozen River is the true story of Joseph Seo, imprisoned at twelve in a North Korean labor camp for his family’s Christian faith. For nine years he endured starvation, executions, frostbite, and the deaths of those he bonded with. At twenty-one, he escaped with his siblings in the dead of winter, crossing a frozen river under gunfire. His sister was shot on the ice, while Joseph and his brother staggered into China. Smuggled through a secret network of safehouses, Joseph traveled 4,000 miles across Asia before reaching Seoul, where his testimony brought him face-to-face with Joe Biden and Barack Obama. Eventually relocated by the CIA for his safety, his survival became not only a story of escape but a voice for those who never made it out. In the tradition of Chernobyl and When They See Us, Frozen River is a prestige feature film and limited series project: an unflinching survival epic with global resonance.
