How the Light Got In tells the true inspired journey of Nadine Keaton, a sharp, funny, determined woman whose life is upended when she suffers a massive stroke while on a work trip in Amsterdam. Forced into sudden dependence and grueling rehabilitation, Nadine confronts the loss of her physical abilities, the shattering of her independence, and the emotional wounds she’s carried for decades, including abandonment by her biological father and the absence of her beloved mother, her soulmate.

After returning home to California, Nadine undergoes months of physical, occupational, and speech therapy, supported by an extraordinary circle of family and friends.
