DOG’S LAND

DOG’S LAND
By Alex Olguin

GENRE: Comedy, Animation
LOGLINE:

After being relegated to the backyard by a spiteful cat, an optimistic dog builds a junkyard paradise for outcast dogs like him and accidentally puts himself between his dogs and a feline conspiracy to erase their memories and turn them into obedient servants.

SYNOPSIS:

Spot was found as an abandoned puppy by Aubrey, a young woman who gave him a home and an identity, until Aubrey adopted Luna, a cat who harbors a deep resentment toward dogs. After a chaotic first encounter between them, Aubrey is forced to keep Spot in the backyard, believing it is the only way to make Luna feel safe.

As the cats have carried a long-term operation to keep dogs out of their houses, led by the cat Poppy and enforced by Luna, Spot, after spending a year trying and failing to get back inside, gives up and decides to create a place for dogs like him, Dog's Land, a hidden amusement park made of discarded junk where dogs can run, bark, and be dogs without permission.

As Dog’s Land gets built, the cats plan their next goal: erasing the dogs' memories and reeducating them as obedient servants. Their plan takes shape when Napoleon, a megalomaniacal hamster, offers to complete the cats plan, and to accomplish it, they need the abandoned cell tower at the heart of Dog's Land.

As Spot fights to protect the only place that gives dogs like him a sense of belonging, Luna is forced to confront the fear and childhood trauma that fueled her hatred of dogs. Meanwhile, Napoleon manipulates both sides in pursuit of his own goal: to enslave every creature larger than himself and never feel powerless again.

Dog's Land is a four-quadrant animated feature that combines the allegorical spirit of Animal Farm with the elastic cartoon energy of Tom and Jerry, using traditional 3D animation driven by the physical logic of classic 2D cartoons, crooked and elastic environments, and an exuberant big band jazz score.

Unique concept, Alex Olguin! I think your logline could be tightened up some, and I suggest adding Spot’s goal. Something like: In a neighborhood where cats and dogs clash over privilege, a dog driven from his home creates a place where dogs can live free. When the cat who took his home plots to erase dogs forever, he ____________ (his goal and the stakes).
