A self-loathing autistic activist assists with a disability project, only to discover something meaningful from a group of people living with disabilities.
SYNOPSIS:
Autistic activist Kain Rainmen is interviewed on the Ozsin show, hosted by Dr. Philip Ozsin. On the segment, he is viewed more like a spectacle. We are then introduced to Mimi Jones and her band Influx, rehearsing. Kain’s boss at Voice for Autism (Suzanne Rottons) assigns Kain to work with documentary filmmaker Ann Wright on a documentary about people with disabilities for an awareness campaign. Ann then begins interviewing several white males on the autism spectrum. Mimi is one of the participants who catches Ann’s attention. Upon hearing Mimi adjusting to being autistic while living her life, Kain’s self-hatred starts to crack. At the Accessibility For All support group, The Group (consisting of Eva Robinson, Helen Ludwig, Luna Rose, John McBride, and a married couple, Alexis & Alexander McGlashen), along with Mimi, are each interviewed by Ann about the experience of living with a disability. Hearing all this about self-acceptance, Kain has a nervous breakdown. Is it possible to live with what society deems a so-called “tragedy” and love being autistic? Following the interviews, Kain confronts Suzanne with newfound confidence, quits Voice of Autism, and joins Accessibility For All.
