SEEDSHIP - (SHORT)

SEEDSHIP - (SHORT)
By B. E. Davis

GENRE: Science Fiction
LOGLINE:

When a climate-ravaged Earth launches its last seed vault into the stars, the sole human guardian aboard must choose between preserving humanity’s future and the life growing inside her.

SYNOPSIS:

Set in a near-future devastated by environmental collapse, Seedship follows Dr. Sahana Malik, a botanist and expectant mother entrusted with humanity’s last genetic legacy. Alone aboard the Eden Project’s seedship—a vast spacecraft carrying millions of seeds, embryos and DNA samples—Sahana tends to hydroponic gardens and listens to recorded messages from her partner Vik on Earth. Her only companions are the ship’s AI and the steady thrum of machinery as she charts a course toward a distant habitable world.

When a life‑support failure threatens both the seed vault and her pregnancy, Sahana faces a harrowing decision: divert scarce power to save her unborn child or preserve the seed stock that represents the last hope for Earth’s ecosystems. In an act of profound sacrifice, she halts her own gestation to protect the seeds, yet she ensures her child’s memory lives on through recorded lullabies and stories of basil, soil and home. The film unfolds through intimate diary entries, flashbacks and moments of quiet labor, building to a conclusion where Sahana recommits to her mission and whispers to the stars that “up” will always mean hope. Seedship is a visually striking, emotional one-woman drama about motherhood, duty and the resilience needed to plant a future beyond extinction.
