ON HOLD - (PILOT)

ON HOLD - (PILOT)
By B. E. Davis

GENRE: Drama, Comedy
LOGLINE:

“ON HOLD” is a fresh, half-hour workplace comedy set in a chaotic call center where the customers are bizarre, the co-workers are dysfunctional, and everyone’s life feels… on hold. It’s hilarious, smart, and heartfelt — think The Office meets Superstore with the emotional depth of Ted Lasso. At its core, it’s about misfits who realize that even in the world’s dullest job, they don’t have to keep their own dreams waiting on hold. It’s universal, globally relatable, and built to binge.

SYNOPSIS:

At a run-down call center on the edge of town, the night shift crew answers phones for a company that nobody’s really sure still exists. Their days (and nights) are a blur of bizarre customer complaints, broken headsets, and endless loops of soul-crushing hold music.

But beneath the chaos, this ragtag team of misfits is bound by one thing: they’re all waiting. Waiting for promotions that never come, waiting for relationships to fix themselves, waiting for their real lives to finally begin.

Led—loosely—by a hapless manager who can’t even get the vending machine to work, the employees range from a failed musician who now writes jingles for hold menus, to a philosophy major who treats every customer call like an existential debate, to a single mom moonlighting as the office’s unlicensed HR guru. Each episode plunges into the absurdity of modern work culture while slowly revealing the humanity, ambition, and unexpected heart that keeps this team together.

As the season unfolds, the crew realizes they’re not just putting strangers on hold—they’ve been putting themselves on hold. And when they finally stop waiting, their drab little call center transforms into a place of reinvention, friendship, and laugh-out-loud redemption.

ON HOLD is a half-hour workplace comedy with heart—an ensemble series that turns the universal experience of dead-end jobs into a smart, global, binge-worthy hit.
