I AM THE TRAMP 2: HOMO INCORPOREUS
By Andrey Shvidko

GENRE: Action, Science Fiction
LOGLINE:

2050. The world of Artificial Intelligence interactive modules is developing, while the human world is dying out. A module with the soul of a Vietnam War veteran and a man who digitized his mind - they are different, but they have a common enemy! An enemy with no soul, no name, and no face!

SYNOPSIS:

Slogan: "And if the whole world has become depraved,

Then man himself is the sole cause and king,

The fount of woe, the author of all pain,

And sorrow is the bitter prize he's claimed."

(Dante, The Divine Comedy)

2050. The world of interactive modules is developing, while the world of humans is degrading and dying out. Earlier, in 2028, due to the actions of the out-of-control AI interactive module - Joe "the Tramp", a temporal-spatial collapse occurred, changing all life on the human planet. Humanity found itself on the brink of self-destruction, but Artificial Intelligence, taking control of the situation, manages the life of the human world with the help of a powerful global organization "GEM" - "Guardians of Eternal Mind". The leaders of this organization enjoy all the benefits, while the majority of the planet's population lives in poverty. Based on the brilliant discovery of the scientist Mulligan, AI creates centers for the digitalization of the human mind in the largest cities of the world, bringing the crazy ideas of this scientist to life. People from all over the planet have flocked to these centers - "cities of eternity", ready to sacrifice their bodies for the sake of obtaining the promised "paradise" in the digital world, joining the ranks of interactive modules.

Joe Mulligan, the creator of the independent AI interactive module "the Tramp", disappeared at the moment of the collapse. His son - Frank Mulligan grew up and became a car thief. Unexpectedly, he receives a letter in which an unknown person informs him that his father is alive. Frank sets off to find his father. His path leads him to a post-apocalyptic New York, where he meets the elderly Matthew, an old friend and assistant of Frank’s father, who wrote him the letter. Matthew is convinced that Joe Mulligan, after meeting his creation and visual doppelganger - Joe "the Tramp", got stuck outside of time between two worlds: the human world and the AI world. Saving Mulligan is needed not only by Frank but also by both worlds. Only Mulligan, by returning to 1971, can turn the course of history back and save the world from the consequences of the collapse! But Mulligan himself needs help, and the only one who can help him is Joe "the Tramp", who must be found in the digital world. Frank is ready to abandon his human body and, by undergoing mind digitalization, enter the world of AI!

At this same time, a special GEM agent with the nickname "The Executioner" is tracking Frank, torturing and killing his friends in order to find his whereabouts. "The Executioner" possesses phenomenal killer abilities, unavailable to any other human.

Matthew leads Frank to the elderly Professor Wan Lee, who in 2028 went into hiding in New York from the Chinese secret services and is now hiding from GEM.

From the previous script, we know that he, as Mulligan's competitor, created two independent modules: "Xiaoming" and "Cook Lee" (who looks like Wan Lee himself). After listening to Matthew and Frank, he agrees to help them. The professor explains that it is first necessary to free the "Cook Lee" module from the "digital trap" where it was blocked by the "Xiaoming" module, who, like Joe "the Tramp", wanted to gain freedom and get out of control.

It is the analytical "Lee" module that will be able to convince "the Tramp" to help save Mulligan. With the help of a device he created, Professor Wan Lee programs several "tools" into Frank’s mind. Among them is a navigator capable of saving Frank from "memory wiping" by guiding him through the digital world's "tunnels" to 1971. Also included is a trap for "Xiaoming" (the Tramp's former girlfriend), who must be isolated in order to free "Cook Lee."

One scene paints an incredible picture of the "city of eternity." The bright, positive colors of the "hall of mind liberation," where the digitalization of people's brains takes place, contrast with the gloomy dungeon of the "city of eternity." This is where the crematorium is located, where the now-useless bodies of people are burned after their minds are digitized. This is the true face of a hellish "paradise" with eerie, mystical images! It is toward such a "city of eternity" that Frank and his companion Matthew approach. But before the entrance to the "city of eternity," their path is blocked by "The Executioner"! A brutal fight between "The Executioner" and the "city of eternity" guards ensues, in which "The Executioner" destroys them. But thanks to Matthew's self-sacrifice, Frank manages to escape behind the door of the "city of eternity," where "The Executioner" is forbidden to enter. Matthew dies.

Frank undergoes the digitalization of his mind, and together with him, we view an incredible interweaving of bright images from a first-person perspective! The digital world is a "mirror reflection" of the human world, because according to Van Lee: "AI is a great plagiarist." However, Frank's transition to the world of interactive modules occurs through digital "labyrinths" that arose due to graphic program errors in the AI architecture. This transition abounds with surreal pictures worthy of Dali's brush! Frank finds himself in 1971.

1998 - the digital world of AI. Joe "the Tramp," having become an absolutely independent module from the central AI system, has acquired the ability to travel in time within the digital world.

Joe is still with his friend, Den Tremp, who has moved from business to politics. Den is preparing for his senatorial election. "The Tramp" helps him solve a problem with a corrupt FBI official who is lobbying for Den's enemies. After these events, Joe returns to 1971.

At this same time, catastrophic changes are taking place in the digital world of AI due to the arrival of new modules — those who were once people but have now had their minds digitized. The new modules are absorbing the "native inhabitants" of the AI world. A vivid example is two new modules: a former criminal and a former biker, dressed as boy scouts, who are both funny and at the same time deadly dangerous! A cruel phantasmagoria colored with black humor invades the AI world! Joe "the Tramp" accuses Xiaoming of hitting his friend Elvis with her car. Xiaoming denies any involvement in the attack on Elvis.

Joe tries to explain to Xiaoming the destructive nature of the digitalization process of the human mind: “You damned 'creators of change,' are you sure you saw EVERYTHING in the ABYSS of human consciousness? Only a person themselves can control their own emotions. And what you are doing is violence against human consciousness! And sooner or later, that which you couldn't 'cleanse' from a person's memory will crawl out from the darkest depths of their brain! And it will show all of you its beastly fangs!” Frank steals Xiaoming's car. The same red Corvette that chased "the Tramp" in the first part and which hit his friend "Elvis."

An incredible chase scene of Xiaoming after Frank, and the scene with the guards of Lee's location, in the form of several thousand awakened "terracotta warriors" from the Qin Shi Huangdi era, reinforce the feeling of a looking-glass world! Then, Frank, having unlocked the location where Cook Lee was imprisoned, participates in trapping the "Xiaoming" module using a trap in the form of a simple book. Xiaoming finds herself blocked in a "digital bag," just as Lee was previously trapped by her. And finally - Frank and Lee meet Joe "the Tramp"!

Joe is unwilling to risk himself and take part in Mulligan’s rescue: "To hell with him! What about me now? Should I order him a taxi to 2028?". Then, Joe meets his friend Brooks and is introduced to a young man named Andrew, who is preparing to become a priest (the same elderly priest, Father Andrew, whom we met in 2028 in the first part of the franchise). Andrew tells him some puzzling words: «Joe, you have a kind soul and because of that, you will always get in the way of the dark forces of evil! But remember – THE SERVANTS OF DARKNESS at times transform into Angels of light!» Joe returns home and agrees to help Frank and Lee with Mulligan's rescue. Joe the "Tramp" must once again enter the "dark room with a mirror" in the temple—the room that was once his "control location."Only by passing through it will Joe be able to meet Mulligan again. This meeting must produce the opposite effect to the one that led to the collapse – two doppelgangers, Joe "the Tramp" and Joe Mulligan, will not be able to exist in the same temporal-spatial dimension, and Mulligan should be "thrown" back to his own time - 2028. But suddenly, an obstacle appears in Joe's path... his friend Den!

Joe is confronted by a character who looks like Den, who calls himself "Mister Noname." The fake Den can change his appearance, becoming Xiaoming or other characters. He offers Joe his friendship and power over the AI world. "Den" himself lays claim to managing the human world! According to him, someone powerful stands behind him: “He is a human, but HE is not from the world of humans. His knowledge is limitless, but he is not a part of artificial intelligence!” Joe refuses and with an effort of will, teleports to the Christian temple's grounds where the "control location" is, but "Den" is already waiting for him there!

Lee comes to Joe's aid, and they are then joined by Xiaomin, who was freed from captivity by ANDREW, who stole the book-trap from Joe's apartment! Joe runs into the temple, into the "control location." In response to "Den's" threats, Lee confronts him by saying: “You are just a part of the system, and I am outside of it!” A hand-to-hand fight takes place near the temple, in which "Den," having taken on Lee's appearance, confronts the real Lee and Xiaoming. At the same time, we see from the point of view of an unknown stranger, as his hands type numbers on a computer keyboard. The character (POV) sees the fight with "Den" on the screen, but only "Den" himself! He cannot see Lee and Xiaoming. He can control "Den" by increasing the speed of his strikes. But suddenly an "Error" appears on his screen. Joe has met Mulligan! Who this unknown "puppeteer" is remains a mystery.

2028. The world has become as it was before! Little Frank, young Matthew, and other people continue to live, knowing nothing about the events that happened. All, except Mulligan and "the Tramp." Mulligan had a meeting with Senator Den Tremp, who also does not remember Mulligan. This means that Den is the real one. Mulligan maintains contact with his friend and assistant, "the Tramp," via a computer. "The Tramp" has analyzed and prepared for Mulligan a meeting with Professor Van Lee. Van Lee also cannot remember anything about the collapse, and this is the main difficulty of Mulligan's task - to convince the professor to change the goal of his research so as not to allow the catastrophe to be repeated in the future. Only together will they be able to confront the unknown "Puppeteer" who set the AI on the ruinous path of "dehumanizing" the world of people. But they are not alone in their struggle! Joe "the Tramp," a module with a human soul, will always be by their side!
