Wishing only to rest on a couch in the middle of a field, a lonely man sets in motion a chain of events that, years later, leads to the rise of an entire city.
SYNOPSIS:
The Couch
General StoryA lonely, middle-aged man places a comfortable, expensive couch in the middle of an empty field, wanting to sit and enjoy nature instead of staying home and watching television. He brings the couch, sits on it, relaxes, and decides not to take it back, leaving it behind as he drives away.
Soon, passersby discover the couch. They sit on it to rest and place a coffee table nearby. A few days later, others bring chairs, light a fire, and throw a party. The next day, someone builds a canopy over the couch, constructs a house, and installs a street lamp. Gradually, over time, a whole city grows around the couch.
The man who brought the couch never returns. The story carries a tone and atmosphere reminiscent of Forrest Gump.
GenrePhilosophical drama with elements of fable / magical realism.
FormatCan work as an auteur film for festivals (Cannes, Venice) or as an allegorical series in the style of Black Mirror, but with a lighter, more uplifting tone.
ReferencesForrest Gump, Big Fish.

Series ExpansionEach episode could explore a new “chapter” in the life of the couch:
Episode 1: The man and his loneliness.
Episode 2: Random passersby.
Episode 3: The first gatherings and a fire.
Episode 4: The beginnings of construction.
Episode 5: Transformation into a settlement.
Episode 6: The birth of a true city.
Episode 7: Philosophical finale — the couch becomes a local landmark. A plaque beside it reads: “The Couch Where It All Began”.
Minimalism, slow pans, emphasis on the beauty of nature contrasted with emerging objects.
AtmosphereA blend of realism and light magical elements, making the audience feel it’s “real, but slightly more than life.”
Key SymbolThe couch as the center of the story’s universe.
This is a universal metaphor for how a random action can become the beginning of civilization.

The empty sofa is a modern analogue of the metaphor of the empty boat, which often appears in Daoist teachings. When a person becomes empty inside—when their personality, mind, and ego disappear—entire universes can emerge within that empty space. In Guy Ritchie’s film Revolver, a similar idea is present, but in a different form.
I think this story is a great fit for a commercial, for a furniture store, like IKEA for example )
