A successful businessman and family man begins to feel like a woman trapped in a man's body and develops an attraction to men after a hypnosis session. In a desperate attempt to become himself again, he begs the psychologist for a second session. However, the reverse hypnosis causes his original personality to vanish, allowing a female essence to take full control—one that now wants to get rid of his wife and children.
SYNOPSIS:
Thirty years after enduring brutal schoolyard bullying where he was called "sissy" and "faggot," ALEXANDER has built a successful life and career as a psychologist. His deep-seated trauma seemed buried in the past—until the day VIKTOR, the very man who made his childhood a living hell, walks into his office as a new client. Viktor is suffering from an existential crisis and marital problems, but he doesn't recognize the boy he once tormented.
Seeing a twisted chance for revenge, Alexander casts aside his professional ethics. Under the guise of therapeutic hypnosis, he doesn't heal Viktor—he reprograms him. Using the hypnotic trigger "Remember Yourself," Alexander forces Viktor to "recall" that he has always been gay and is a woman trapped in a man's body.
The changes are gradual but irreversible. Viktor, once emotionally withdrawn, starts noticing men. He changes his habits, joining a gym with the sole purpose of being around other men. His wife, OLIVIA, watches in confusion as her husband becomes flirtatious, open, and emotionally available—the complete opposite of the man he was. Her horror peaks when she finds gay pornography on his computer and later follows him to a gay club. His old life unravels with the same tense, domestic dread that permeates the series "THE STAIRCASE."
"Return to me," Olivia desperately begs Alexander, pleading with him to reverse the hypnosis. Alexander, now burdened by guilt, agrees. But the experiment has gone too far. The new personality has taken root too deeply; the reverse hypnosis fails because, under the hypnotic command to "Remember Yourself," a new, authentic essence was born. Realizing the transformation is permanent, Viktor pretends to have "returned" just to placate his wife, forcing him to live a double life. The story descends into a chilling nightmare of lost identity, whose power and tragedy are reminiscent of the characters' descent in the film "REQUIEM FOR A DREAM."
"REMEMBER YOURSELF, RETURN TO ME" is a chilling exploration of the nature of the self. Can you remember something that never was? And can you bring back someone who no longer exists? This is a tense psychological thriller about a healer-destroyer and a punishment that blurs the line between revenge and fate.
Main Themes: Revenge, Childhood Trauma, Professional Ethics, Gender Identity, Sexual Orientation, The Fragility of Self-Identification.
Comparisons with Known Projects (Comps):
"THE STAIRCASE" – For its slow, inexorable unraveling of a prosperous family's facade and the intense psychological dissection of a man's identity.
"REQUIEM FOR A DREAM" – For its visually powerful and tragic depiction of a descent into a personal hell and irreversible decay.
"THE SKIN I LIVE IN" – As a story of twisted revenge and forced identity change.
"THE SUBSTANCE" - As in this film, the protagonist becomes a battleground for two warring entities, where a new, awakened personality seeks to usurp the right to exist from the old one, leading to both physical and mental horror.
