DEDICATED TO MY GIRLFRIEND
By Vladimir Romantsev

GENRE: Romance, Drama
LOGLINE:

A young woman, who lost her best friend in a street robbery, decides to avenge her. But after killing the culprit, she faces a bitter truth — he had a big family who needed him more than she needed revenge.

SYNOPSIS:

Taglines:

Don’t befriend death, even if you’re left completely alone.

Revenge is not the best friend.

Don’t befriend death.

Don’t be a slave to revenge.

Revenge is a bad friend.

Moral ambiguity. Friendship and love. Death and loss. The cost of revenge.

Scene 1:

A sunny summer day in a Mediterranean resort town. Two young women kiss and embrace shyly on the street, then part ways. One of them, dressed in office clothes, heads to work. The other, in a light summer dress, goes back home.

Scene 2:

The woman in office clothes walks down a picturesque narrow street. On her handbag — a small double heart symbol. A man on a motorcycle — a thief — rides past, locking eyes with her for a split second before snatching the bag. She falls, hits her head on a metal railing, and dies instantly. The man grabs the handbag and drives off.

Scene 3:

Police officers — a Black man and a white woman — arrive at her friend’s apartment and explain everything. The young woman bursts into tears. While the police deliver the tragic news, outside the window the same sunny city and cheerful tourists go about their lives. As if nothing had happened.

Scene 4:

The grieving woman buys explosives with a remote control from a biker gang. She’s dressed in a black hoodie with the hood up and dark glasses.

Scene 5:

She takes the handbag her late friend had given her, puts the explosives inside, and prepares to go out.

Scene 6:

The young woman, now carrying a similar bag, walks down the same street as her friend once did. A man on a motorcycle rides past, snatches her handbag — which slips off easily, deliberately loosened for the purpose. He speeds away into the distance. She pulls out the detonator, presses the button, and the bomb inside the bag explodes. On the button — a small pink double-heart sticker, which she had peeled off her refrigerator and stuck there.

Scene 7:

The same two police officers arrive at the home of the dead man — his wife and three children. They explain everything to the wife. She cries; the children ask, “Where’s Dad?” Again, outside the window — the same sunny city and happy tourists. As if nothing had happened.

The man’s 5-year-old son holds in his hands a toy motorcycle — an exact replica of his father’s. The toy slips from his fingers and falls onto the street. The little motorcycle is smeared with red paint the boy had used for a drawing. The family goes inside, leaving the toy alone on the cold pavement. Rain begins to fall — the first drops hit the motorcycle, washing away the red paint, which spreads across the wet asphalt…
