A desperate town elects a honey badger as mayor, using its instinctive “yes/no” decisions to reboot the economy — but as success grows, the people must choose between efficiency, fairness, and giving power back to themselves.
SYNOPSIS:
A fantastic story about a city with a honey badger as mayor. Contains scenes of violence and adult material.
In a depressed provincial town surviving on a dying lumber mill, the outgoing mayor admits failure and proposes an absurd solution: elect a honey badger as the new mayor. The animal belongs to no interest group and cannot compromise. Decisions will be made only in binary form — “yes” or “no.”
Exhausted by dishonesty and endless debates, the citizens agree. The honey badger becomes mayor. Its presence quickly alters behavior: violence, petty crime, and everyday aggression fade after a series of instinctive, uncompromising “bites” — direct reactions to disorder.
The city invites proposals for economic revival. A young mathematician presents a radical plan: a tightly regulated “adults-only park” combining gambling, sex work, legal cannabis, and a fight club. Everything is permitted, but strictly limited. The honey badger approves.
The park unexpectedly drives economic growth. Tourism, jobs, and tax revenue stabilize the town. The city gains notoriety. But success demands expansion. The next decision — acquiring surrounding farmland to grow the park — is also approved.
Farmers receive compensation, but for one woman the loss of land means the loss of her entire life. She sets a trap and injures the honey badger. The animal survives. The woman is tried and sentenced to prison. The system functions without sentiment.
As tensions rise, officials propose granting the honey badger full autonomous authority to speed up decision-making. For the first time, it answers “no,” preventing the concentration of power. Progress slows. Public frustration grows. Gradually, it becomes clear: the honey badger does not rule — it simply prevents people from hiding behind excuses.
In the next election, the honey badger narrowly wins again. There is no celebration. The system remains in place — functional, slow, and uncomfortable.
The city continues to operate without shortcuts, unable to shift responsibility onto a single figure.
