When a sports fashion executive gets promoted to corporate headquarters across the country, her fiancé, an emergency backup goalie (EBUG), must choose between his dream of playing in the NHL and the woman he loves.

SYNOPSIS:

Clive Bellows, a beer league hockey goalie, attends every home game for his beloved Blackhawks. He watches the game from a private suite, eats from the media buffet, and waits for his chance to play in the NHL. As the arena's designated emergency backup goalie (EBUG), Clive gets to play when both goalies from either team suffer injuries. But that's such a rare occurrence that in three years, Clive's never seen game action. Once a top college prospect at Wisconsin, Clive suffered a torn MCL that derailed his career. Now he guards the net twice a week in Johnny's Adult League and works a warehouse job to pay the bills. Being EBUG is Clive's only chance to fulfill his childhood dream.

Even though Clive's hockey aspirations haven't come true, at least he's engaged to the woman of his dreams. Sheri McIntyre was a track and field star when they met in college. Now she operates a Chicago area Under Armour Brand House, where the company releases its newest lines of apparel. Sheri has increased sales and improved morale to such a degree that Marianne Wilkens, vice president of product design, has identified her as a prime candidate to join her team at the office in Portland. Sheri flies west to meet the team and see the city. It's exactly the lifestyle she's always wanted. A private office at corporate headquarters, a chic apartment in a vibrant city, and the man she loves by her side.

Except Portland doesn't have a professional hockey team, so Clive doesn't want to move. Doesn't want to give up his dream of playing in the NHL. But how long is he willing to wait? Already 28, he's past the prime of most players. Sheri wants him to attain his dream, but at some point he needs to admit that it's never going to happen. Sheri's determined not to sit around waiting for her opportunity. She accepts the job and moves west, leaving Clive and her engagement ring behind. Due to a starting goalie injury leading up to the final game of the season, Clive finally gets to suit up and sit on the bench as the team's backup goalie. But will he get a chance to play? And when he finds Sheri's engagement ring and goodbye letter, will he keep pursuing his dream or will he follow the woman he loves?
