WOLF OUT!
By John Howard

GENRE: Horror
LOGLINE:

A preteen with anger issues drives his best friend away and must confront the true nature of loyalty to save him from what lurks in the forest.

SYNOPSIS:

This script was a second-rounder at 2024's Austin Film Festival and has been recommended by We Screenplay.

"Wolf Out!" is written along the lines of films like "Teen Wolf" and "Stand by Me." A twelve-year-old named Zach, whose cheating father has prompted his scientist mother to make a clean break and accept a position at a lab in California, has anger management issues. He befriends a fellow outcast, Billy, who suffers from alopecia, a condition causing hair loss but then betrays him when he sits at lunch with a pretty girl named Cheri.

Searching for Billy in the woods where their Boy Scouts troop had fled from wolves, Zach fights with the bullies who recruited him as their muscle with the help of Cheri, and they discover werewolves have captured Billy and plan to sacrifice him during the Blood Red Full Moon. Zach's mother, Genesis, uncovers how her predecessor, Dr. Drakos, who was obsessed with the legendary King Lycaon in Greek mythology, had come across a werewolf virus in the Angeles National Forest and now intends to rule a growing pack of werewolves. With this virus, turning into a wolf allows the person to fully realize his or her complete, animalistic power.

Genesis realizes her son is in danger and must find him and bring him back home. Now, with time running out, Zach must rescue Billy, or he faces death, after which the transformations of those in a werewolf pack would become permanent.

A reader from We Screenplay described the tone and potential impact of the script in this way: “This will be for the creature genre what ‘The Adam Project’ was for time-travel movies: emotional, playful, and action-packed.”
