A family stranded by a nor'easter in an isolated Massachusetts town must escape before dawn, unaware the locals have always survived this storm at a stranger's expense.

SYNOPSIS:

The Carver family is driving to a memorial service for Eva's estranged father when a nor'easter strands them in Cold River, an isolated town tucked into the Berkshires. Scott, Eva, sixteen-year-old Madelyn, and ten-year-old Murray expect a delay of a day, maybe two.

At first, it's just an inconvenience: flooded roads, a dead cell signal, a town that stares a beat too long. Then a local wades into the flooded square in broad daylight to rescue a stranded dog, and is simply gone, the water settling like nothing happened. No one in town reacts.

As the storm tightens its grip and more neighbors vanish without a word, the Carvers start to notice what the locals already know: something moves through Cold River when the water rises, and this town has survived it for generations. In the town square, a glacial boulder is engraved with photographs of the missing, grouped by year, a monument nobody in Cold River will explain.

Eva's late father spent thirty years investigating this town before he disappeared into it himself, and he left something behind: a notebook, a hand-drawn map, and a theory he never lived to test. The deeper the Carvers dig, the clearer it becomes that they were never just stranded here.

With a ten-year-old's salt gun as their only weapon and a freight train as their only way out, the family has one shot before dawn and Eva is about to finish the fight her father never got to.
