Dave, who suffers from chronic pain, heads to his favorite restaurant, Nacho Libre's, for the first time in months when a cartoon series, The Adventures of Stinky Steven, now appearing on the restaurant's placemats, gives Dave pause, causing him to re-examine his life.
SYNOPSIS:
Dave is down on his luck. Despite his constant help for others and the near universal appreciation he receives his outlook on life continues to deteriorate as his chronic pain becomes harder to manage.
Nacho Libre's is the ultimate adult playground restaurant, especially for fans of Jack Black. His regular visits were halted after a lunchtime DUI led to a breakup with his long-time girlfriend, Kristie. After six months away, he decides it is time for a return. He calls ahead of time to ensure his personal booth is still available.
As he waits for his meal to arrive, he notices that a new feature has been added. The placemats now tell The Adventures of Stinky Steven. How odd that the strip is so similar to his current situation.
As Dave's life continues to encounter elevated levels of personal conflict, the placemats become a required piece of information and he frequents the restaurant daily for updates. He strikes up a relationship with the muse for the restaurant, Jack Black, as he attempts to navigate the continued string of bad luck.
As his chronic pain intensifies so does his reliance on all forms of medication to dampen the pain. The combination of ingredients accelerates the downward spiral his life has been the last two years as he seeks guidance. Is the Universe trying to send him a message and if so, what exactly is the message?
Dave makes harsh decisions and the audience is left to wonder if life is imitating art or art is imitating life?
