GENRE: Drama, Comedy
LOGLINE:

When a middle-class couple wins $50k, they impulsively decide to go on a year-long cruise to fulfill their ultimate bucket list item, but encounter a much different year than they expected, returning as transformed and different people.

SYNOPSIS:

Gary and Peggy are like many mid-50s couples living life just on the right side of middle class. A winning scratch-off lottery ticket provides a $50K windfall, and they debate the best use of the unexpected stroke of good fortune. After intensive debate, a drunken night of Jim Beam seals the deal - they will go on a year-long cruise.

As their cruise departs for New York towards Barcelona, the couple is determined to have the time of their lives. A bankruptcy ruling of the cruise line forces the ship to dock in Barcelona, throwing everyone’s dream vacation into turmoil and passengers are forced to determine next steps on their own. After a spirited debate in a Spanish weed club the duo decide to take the rest of the year as nomads and attempt to replicate the cruise itinerary as much as possible while living a much different existence than the luxury of the cruise ship.

Budgetary requirements find them selecting locations and accommodations that put them in uncomfortable and difficult circumstances while exposing them to a world they never knew, or cared, existed.

As they return home one year later, they have transformed, and family and friends find them almost unrecognizable. As they try to assimilate back into their previous existence, the familiar phrase ‘There’s no place like home’ presents an ironic and uncomfortable conundrum. One year later they are forced to confront this challenge and remake their lives in a way that makes sense to them.
